Hazman Helmi, currently the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for Kumpulan Wang Amanah Persaraan (KWAP), Malaysia’s largest public sector pension fund, oversees over RM175 billion in assets. His journey of academic excellence began at Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS) and continued with pure science electives at Kolej Matrikulasi Yayasan Saad (now KYUEM). Graduating with first-class honors in Engineering, Economics & Management from the University of Oxford and further earning a master’s in Operational Research at the London School of Economics (LSE), Hazman’s academic prowess is unmatched. His leadership skills were evident early on, holding key positions at KYS and KYUEM, and later leading the student council at KYUEM.
Professionally, Hazman’s career trajectory is equally impressive. After starting as an industrial placement analyst at British Telecommunications and working for the GSM Association, he served a bond with Telekom Malaysia but shifted to Khazanah Nasional. There, he played a pivotal role in setting up international offices and managing various investee companies. His efforts culminated in his appointment as the founding CEO of AMAL, significantly enhancing its visibility. In January 2022, Hazman took on the role of CIO at KWAP, where his strategic insights continue to drive the organization forward. Hazman’s inspiring journey underscores his relentless pursuit of excellence and his commitment to leveraging his leadership to make a lasting impact.
