“Don’t be afraid to take risks. If you don’t take risks at a young age then when are you going to do that?”
Nik Nazmi’s journey into Malaysian politics reflects a courageous commitment to public service. An alumnus of Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) and Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM), he established a foundation in leadership and academics early on. His time at KYUEM, where he served as Student Council President, cultivated his passion for history and politics, preparing him for the dynamic political landscape. With a scholarship from PNB, he pursued law at King’s College London, diving into Malaysian student organizations and developing his political ambitions, inspired by figures like Malcolm X.
In 2008, at just 26, Nik Nazmi took his first step as an elected official by winning the Seri Setia state seat, making a significant impact on youth engagement in politics. Rising rapidly, he was appointed Malaysia’s Minister for Environment and Climate Change in 2022, where he currently advocates for environmental sustainability, driven by a desire to shape a cleaner, greener future for young Malaysians. His journey from KYUEM’s classrooms to Malaysia’s political arena highlights the power of education and courage in shaping a transformative path.
