Biography

Novan, a KYUEM alumnus from the batch of 2000 and a Renong Scholar, has made significant strides in his career, notably serving as the Co-Chief Executive Officer of Group Wholesale Banking (GWB) and the CEO of CIMB Investment Bank Berhad. In these roles, he manages Group Corporate Banking, Group Investment Banking, Group Private Banking, and Corporate and Public Sector Coverage. Joining CIMB in 2022, Novan introduced a new operating model that simplified, de-layered, and specialized the division, resulting in CIMB reclaiming its position as Malaysia’s leading investment bank. Under his leadership, CIMB also re-entered the public equities market with the acquisition and relaunch of CIMB Securities.

Following his time at KYUEM, Novan pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Sydney and completed a Master’s in Commerce at the University of Melbourne. A Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of experience, he has worked across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Before CIMB, he spent nearly 16 years at J.P. Morgan, where he last held the positions of Head of Equity Capital Markets for Southeast Asia and Head of Investment Banking for Malaysia. He also worked at PwC, specializing in corporate finance advisory. His diverse experience and strategic leadership have earned him recognition and confidence from industry leaders, including Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad, Chairman of CIMB, who praised Novan’s track record in delivering results and driving organizational transformation.

As of this writing, Novan is serving as the Group CEO at CIMB.
