Biography

Safrizal Kasri, a distinguished alumnus of Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM), has made significant contributions to the field of geotechnical engineering. His academic journey began at SMK King George V, where he excelled academically and served as Head Prefect. After completing his A-Levels at KYUEM, Safrizal pursued his Master’s in Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. He chose geotechnical engineering for its challenging nature and began his career with a summer internship at Atkins, eventually working there full-time. Currently, Safrizal is a project engineer at Geoquip Marine Group, where he provides offshore geotechnical solutions for renewable energy developments worldwide. He has managed significant projects, including the delivery of geotechnical investigation data for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Farm, the largest wind farm in the US, and designed the structural integrity of a nuclear power plant in the UK.

Throughout his career, Safrizal has demonstrated exemplary leadership and technical skills, evidenced by his role as chair of the British Geotechnical Association (BGA). His proactive approach and commitment to excellence were nurtured during his time at KYUEM, where he developed a strong foundation in academics and leadership. Safrizal’s advice to students emphasizes the importance of balancing extracurricular activities with academic priorities, highlighting the significance of soft skills and interpersonal abilities in professional success. His journey from KYUEM to leading major geotechnical projects underscores his dedication to making impactful contributions to the field and serves as an inspiration to future engineers.
